Discounts for Older Adults
Posted: January 20, 2026, 9:53AMLife has gotten a little expensive, and if you're like me, you get a little excited about discounts and coupons. I shop with digital coupons, count my fuel points, and use the 15% off coupons at local stores.
Regardless of what we're told, prices have not decreased for groceries and many other commodities, and those small savings add up, especially for those on fixed incomes. For the first time in many years, I am checking prices and putting products back on the shelves.
Saving money and stretching the dollars we DO have makes sense...for everyone.
The National Council on Aging has compiled a list of discounts for older adults. Here are a few of them.
Dairy Queen - many locations offer a 10% discount for 'seniors'. Check your local DQ and ask about the discount.
Outback Steakhouse - AARP members get 10% off at participating locations. NCOA reports that you must show your AARP card.
McDonald's - Senior discounts are available at participating locations. You may need to specifically ask for the discount.
Kohl's - Adults "60 or better" may receive a 15% discount every Wednesday. Check with your local Kohl's.
There are many others that include restaurants, services, travel, and hotels. Check the NCOA website for more suggestions. .
When you're shopping or dining, ask about a senior discount. All they can do is say "no".
