June is National Safety Month
Posted: June 9, 2025, 1:54PMWe need to be safety-conscious all year! June is the month dedicated to Safety Awareness. Take a few minutes and do an inventory of your home.
The National Institute on Aging offers a worksheet to help you with your home safety assessment. Is lighting adequate inside and out? Do you have handrails on your stairs? Do you have throw rugs or cords in walking areas? AARP offers the HomeFit Guide for consumers with several ideas on how to make your home a safer place!
You also need to consider road safety. What about your vehicle? Is everything in good working order? Do you need any of the fluids replenished? How are your tires? Consider a check-up at your auto service department to make sure your auto is in good shape. Do you wear your seat belt ALL THE TIME? Do you use hands-free connections for your phone? What about other drivers? Are you alert and in tune with how other drivers are performing? Are you aware of road conditions? We need to use extra caution when it's raining, foggy, or snowing. Safe Driving offers tips on staying safe behind the wheel.
There are workplace considerations, too. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration offers information for employers and employees regarding safe work practices. What can you do as an employee and as an employer? Be aware of how to follow workplace safety guidelines.
Take a minute and observe. Do you see things that need fixed or upgraded? Be proactive!
